Advice and support is offered to school staff for individual pupils, groups or classes. ACT4SEND can also work with senior leaders on strategic whole school issues. Consultation can be focused on improving classroom practice and delivery, or on strategic support for SENCos and leadership teams.
Consultation for pupils may focus on:
- Dyslexia
- Dyspraxia (DCD)
- Dyscalculia
- Autistic Spectrum Conditions
- Syndromes e.g. Down Syndrome
- Speech & Language difficulties
Whole school consultation could be in relation to:
- Implementing the SEND code of practice including Assess-Plan-Do-Review cycles and SEN support plans
- The role of the SENCo
- Effective inclusion, including SEN audit and preparing for OfSTED
- Write SEN policies and implementing the Equalities Duty
Consultations can include observations of pupils, meeting with parents to gather background information or sharing strategies with school staff and parents. This could be a one-off piece of work or series of sessions which may also include assessment or training as appropriate. Alternatively it can follow an Assess-Plan-Do-Review cycle in line with the SEND code of practice.
